The quality of automotive Gear Oil with low quality on the market is mainly manifested in two aspects: 1. The composition of Base Oil is poor. Qualified gear oil is blended with standard base oil. Fake and inferior products are added with residue, asphalt oil, inferior rubber oil, light deoiling and extraction oil. These components have poor thermal stability, poor viscosity and temperature, dark color, easy stratification or precipitation during storage. 2. Gear Oil Additive Package are poor in composition or without additives at all, and the quality of additives for fake and inferior products is low. Or use Lubricant Additive Component or Additive Package which have been phased out. Some of the additives are not enough or the ratio is improper, and the performance is not good.
How to distinguish the authenticity of lubricating oil? Reference can be made to the following methods: (1)Look at color: Qualified oil products are uniform in appearance, transparent to light, and fake and inferior products are black with poor transparency. Sometimes stratification or sediment can be observed at the bottom of the tank. (2)Smell: Modern GL-4 and GL-5 oils are mostly formulated with sulfides and do not use chlorinated paraffins, so they have a pungent thionene odor when heated slightly. There is no such flavor or additive or poor quality with chlorinated paraffins.
(3)Elemental analysis: Qualified products contain a large number of S and P elements, and unqualified products contain CL elements or no obvious additive elements. (4)Heating observation: When gear oil is heated to 180-200 C, fake and inferior products are easily blackened, while qualified products have little change.
