What is the difference between lubricant oil and grease? Many people don't have a clear distinction, and some people think that lubricant oil is grease. As the name suggests, lubricants and greases are used to lubricate machinery, but why do some machines only use grease and some mechanical lubricants? I believe many of people maybe don't have a clear distinction between lubricating oil and grease. Even many people think that lubricating oil is grease. Today, I came to talk to you about the difference between lubricant oil and grease.
Grease is composed of Base Oil, Lubricant Additive and thickener, Lubricant oil is composed of base oil and lubricant additive. Generally speaking, grease is plastic lubrication composed of one or several thickeners and one or several lubricant liquids. In order to improve the performance, the grease has more thickener than the lubricating oil component, and the grease has the advantage of being able to stay on the lubricating surface. It is suitable for low-speed environment than lubricating oil. It has the advantages of long-term maintenance without additional maintenance and good sealing. It can effectively prevent pollutants from entering the equipment and reduce noise and vibration. It is suitable for harsh operating conditions. But the disadvantages of grease are also obvious. The viscosity is strong, the fluidity is poor, the heat dissipation is not good, the replacement is inconvenient, the amount of grease is difficult to adjust, and the function of cleaning impurities is not provided. It is also one of the reasons why car engines cannot use grease.
However, the disadvantage of grease is the advantage of lubricant oil, good fluidity, good heat dissipation, easy replacement and good cleanability. It is also the lubricant that is known as the "blood" of the car. Its main function is to lubricate, clean, cool, seal, reduce, rust and resist the engine. We all know that the engine is the heart of the car. There are many metal surfaces that rub against each other. These parts move fast and have a poor environment. The working temperature can reach 400 °C to 600 °C. Under such harsh conditions, only qualified lubricants can reduce the wear and tear of engine parts and prolong the service life.
