As process lubricating materials in the process of wire drawing, drawing powder and drawing oil are the two most common drawing lubricants on the market. What is the difference between drawing oil and drawing powder? Which is better, drawing oil or drawing powder?


As we all know: Drawing powder is a common name for dry "drawing lubricant", also known as drawing powder or "drawing lubricating powder". Its ingredients usually include calcium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, stearic acid, animal and vegetable oils, paraffin, talc, etc., and generally have the following characteristics:

①It can be firmly adsorbed on the surface of the steel wire and enter the drawing die with the steel wire, effectively separating the two interfaces of the deformation zone;
②High pressure and high temperature resistance, good extensibility and lubricity. Not only can it be firmly adsorbed on the surface of the steel wire, but also can be extended and deformed with the steel wire, the lubricating film is in a layered structure, the molecular binding force in each layer is strong, and the molecular binding force between the layers is weak;
④ The components that make up the lubricant will not chemically react with the steel wire matrix, generate compounds that affect the performance of the steel wire, or corrode the steel wire, and are easy to remove;

⑤ Low cost and easy to store.

The drawing oil is composed of a Base Oil mixed with a variety of additives, such as emulsifiers, anti-rust inhibitors, anti-oxidant and anti-mildew agents, and has the following characteristics:

①The emulsification system is perfect: the water quality requirements are not high, even at a high temperature of 60 degrees, the stability of the emulsification will not be destroyed, so the wire drawing fluid is not easy to age.
② Suitable for high-speed wire drawing: It can be used at a maximum speed of 2500m/min-2800m/min, long-term high-speed use, good surface gloss of the wire, and small eye mold wear.
③Excellent anti-rust property: The special anti-rust agent can make the drawn copper maintain a bright surface for a long time.
④ Strong cleaning property: low surface tension, quick precipitation of copper powder, which can keep the tank clean for a long time.
⑤Strong lubricity of wire drawing oil: Because of low surface tension, the eye mold has good out-of-roundness. In addition to the traditional oily agent, it contains advanced lubricating enhancer, which can withstand high temperature and reduce the loss of eye mold.
⑥ Selection of refined raw materials: After annealing, the wire has a beautiful luster, which is helpful for secondary processing such as dry enameled wire.
⑦Containing antistatic agent: It can eliminate the adhesion of copper powder after drawing the wire, and keep the copper wire clean.
⑧Industrial safety: Never use raw materials that are harmful to the human body; the pollution is extremely low.

Drawing oil, drawing powder which is better?

Drawing lubricating oil has the advantages of round, red and greasy, smooth, translucent and low wire breakage on the surface of the drawn wire, but its loss of lubricating oil is large. Damage to the mold will affect the quality of the drawn product, and under the high temperature generated by the drawing, it is easy to ignite, smoke, etc., resulting in environmental deterioration.

In terms of drawing powder, if the raw material mix ratio is not properly controlled, it will not only fail to lubricate the surface of the wire, but also easily damage the surface structure of the metal wire, reducing the surface strength and toughness of the material. At the same time, lime has a lot of impurities, which affect the lubricating performance of drawing powder, while paraffin contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and condensed aromatic hydrocarbons, which can easily cause chronic injuries to processing workers.
