Opet-Fuchs – a joint venture of Fuchs Petrolub and Opet Petrolculuk – began operations at a new lubricants blending facility in Izmir, Turkey, Fuchs announced today. The plant has capacity to produce 60,000 metric tons of lubes per year.
The facility will manufacture a range of products, including engine oils, industrial oils and “special products,” according to Fuchs. It also has a research and development laboratory attached, with the capacity to apply more than 100 test methods with more than 45 testing devices.
The JV of Istanbul-based Opet and Mannheim, Germany-based Fuchs first announced the construction of the facility in 2012. The 55,000-square-meter plant cost €24 million (U.S. $26.3 million), according to a press release issued today following an internal opening ceremony.
"This new plant, with its most advanced process technologies and modern automation systems, is adapted to customer and production needs in Turkey and is part of our global growth initiative," Stefan Fuchs, chairman of the executive board of Fuchs, said in the press release.
Opet is a JV of the Koc Group and the Ozturk family, and is one of the largest mineral oil companies in Turkey. Opet-Fuchs was formed in 2005 and acquired Opet’s lubricants business in 2012.
