What factors will affect the quality of lubricant oil?

As we know, lubricant oil is composed of 70-95% Base Oil and 5-30% lubricant additives. So the quality of base oil will direct affect the quality of lubricant oil. But the Lubricant Additive can improve or make up for the shortage of base oil.

According to API standard, the base oil can divided into 4 grade:

1. Grade I: It's belong to mineral oil, saturation hydrocarbon is <90%, S content is >0.03, and viscosity index 80≤VI≤120.

2. Grade II: It's also belong to mineral oil, but is use hydrogenation process production, saturation hydrocarbon is ≥90%, S content is ＜0.03, and viscosity index 80≤VI≤120. It with high saturated hydrocarbon content and good thermal stability.

3. Grade III: It's also belong to mineral oil, and also use hydrogenation process production, saturation hydrocarbon is ≥90%, S content is ＜0.03, and viscosity index ＞120. It with low volatility, and some performance can be compared with PAO, but the price is lower than PAO.

4. Grade IV: PAO, it with high viscosity index, good thermal stability, low volatility and good low temperature capability.

5. Grade V: Other kinds of base oil.
