What is the difference between gear oil GL-4 and GL-5

GL-4 is the medium-load Gear Oil, and GL-5 is the heavy-duty gear oil, so the oil change of the previous truck is GL-5-85w90. The GL-5-85W140 grade gear oil has been used in some engineering vehicles. Compared with common gear oil, the gear oil has the advantages of greater viscosity, lubricating property, better high-temperature resistance, and is gradually popularized, most of which use the GL-5-85W140 gear oil.

What is the difference between GL-5 and GL-4? 

The GL-5 grade gear oil is much more sulfur than the GL-4 grade oil, and more than half of the GL-4 gear oil will cause metal corrosion, that is, the GL-5 corrosion capacity is much higher than the GL-4. As the gear load is generally above 490 MPa, the hyperbola tooth surface load is up to 2942 MPa, so as to prevent the oil film from being worn and scratched, the extreme pressure antiwear agent is normally added to the gear oil, and the sulfur-phosphorus or sulfur-phosphorus-nitrogen type additive is generally adopted.

How often should the gear oil be replaced? 

In general, the amount of oil for ordinary freight vehicles can be changed once more than 12 liters, one hundred thousand kilometers or one year. Truck type in the light truck is recommended to be replaced at the time of 50,000-80,000 km because of the small amount of oil added.
