The improvement of sustainable economic benefits, machining quality and production efficiency largely depends on the correct choice of metalworking fluid. The physical and chemical properties of the processed materials are different, which reflects that there will be new problems in the cutting operation, such as the difficulty of cutting and the compatibility with the cutting fluid.

Aluminum: soft, easy to stick when cutting. If the emulsion is strongly alkaline, it will react with aluminum and cause lotion delamination. Special emulsion or paraffin based mineral oil shall be used as cooling lubricant.

Brass: A large number of fine chips are produced during cutting, which is easy to turn the emulsified oil green. Oils containing active sulfur can change the color of processing materials. For example, filter equipment shall be provided for oil selection agents.

Bronze: significant plastic deformation occurs before shearing, which can make the emulsion green. For example, filtering equipment shall be provided for oil selection agent.

Copper: It is sticky and tough, and produces fine curly chips during cutting, which can make the emulsion green, affect the stability of the emulsion, and generate stains under the action of active sulfur. If oil agent is selected, filtering equipment shall be provided.

Malleable cast iron: A large number of fine chemically active abrasive chips are produced during cutting. These active fines act as filter media, weakening the activity of the emulsion, and can generate iron soap, making the emulsion red brown and the stability of the emulsion worse. If oil agent is used, iron filings must be removed with centrifuge or filter.

Lead and its alloys: free cutting, which can generate lead soap and destroy the stability of emulsion. If the oil agent is used, it has a tendency to thicken the oil agent, and the oil agent containing a lot of fat should be prevented from being used.

Magnesium: It produces fine chips during cutting and is flammable. Generally, water-based cutting fluid is not used, but low viscosity oil can be used as the cutting fluid.



Nickel and high nickel alloys: high heat is generated locally during cutting, and chips may be sintered. Heavy duty emulsion or non active vulcanized oil can be selected.

Titanium: It can produce abrasive and combustible chips, which are easy to work hardening. Heavy duty emulsified oil or extreme pressure oil agent shall be used.

Zinc: The cutting surface is irregular, and it is difficult to obtain a good finish. It generates zinc soap with the emulsion to separate the emulsion. The special emulsion should be selected.
