Moisture will also cause rust to mechanical equipment, and lead to the failure of the additives of the grease, make the low-temperature fluidity of the grease worse, or even freeze, block the oil circuit, and prevent the circulation and oil supply of the grease.
In the presence of moisture, the possibility of high temperature grease emulsification increases. When the temperature reaches a certain level, the water will vaporize to form bubbles, which will not only destroy the oil film and endanger the lubrication, but also affect the circulation and oil supply of the grease due to air resistance. For transformer oil, the presence of moisture makes the withstand voltage of transformer oil drop sharply, which is more harmful.
How to check whether there is moisture in grease, there are several simple methods: 1. Take a certain amount of grease in a test tube and heat the test tube. If there is aerosol or bubbles, water droplets or a "crackling" sound on the tube wall, it is considered that there is moisture in the grease. 2. Take a thin copper wire for lithium-based grease, wind it into a coil, burn it red on the fire, and then put it into a test tube with a test oil. If there is a "crack" sound, it also means that there is water in the grease. 3. Take a certain amount of grease with a test tube, and put a small amount of copper sulfate (anhydrous, white powder) into the test oil. If the copper sulfate changes from white to blue, it also means that there is moisture in the grease.
