How can the machinery factory simply judge the performance and quality differences of different cutting fluids? The following is a set of simplest methods to compare the main performance indicators of different cutting fluid products. You only need to spend 5 minutes to save at least 10% of the cost.

The longer the tool life and the better the machined surface finish, the better the lubricating performance of the cutting fluid. Compare tool life (number of parts that can be machined with a single tool or cutting distance) and machining quality (surface finish) on the same equipment, the same tool, and the same workpiece. Lubrication performance is a very important indicator of cutting fluids. Directly affects the processing quality and cost. But it is impossible to judge intuitively, because you cannot know the formula of cutting fluid and its effective lubricating ingredients. Stability Delamination, impurities and inhomogeneity are present in any of the following two items. It can be judged that the stability of the cutting fluid is poor.
①. Take an appropriate amount of the stock solution and place it in a transparent container for 24 hours to observe whether the stock solution has stratification and impurities, and whether it is uniform;

②. Take an appropriate amount of the original solution, prepare a 5% diluent with tap water, and let it stand for 15 minutes in a transparent container to observe whether the diluent is uniform and whether there are stratification and impurities. The performance of the foam through the experiment shows that the foam can disappear within 15 seconds, and the foam performance is qualified, the sooner the better. Prepare a 5% dilution and place it in a transparent reagent bottle with the lid closed. Then shake the reagent bottle up and down with normal force for 15 seconds, then stand on the table to start timing and observe: if the foam generated in the bottle can disappear within 15 seconds, the faster the disappearance speed, the better. The foam performance is qualified.

The longer the anti-rust and anti-corrosion time, the longer the natural anti-rust and anti-corrosion ability. Configure an appropriate amount of 5% concentration diluent, select machined parts of moderate size (with machined surfaces that have been machined), soak them in cutting fluid for an appropriate time (half an hour to a few hours. According to the length of the parts processing time), take them out and let them rest in the air. The parts are rusted or corroded after 3-5 days of observation.

In particular, this method can only be used to make a rough judgment on this performance. For some special materials (such as aviation aluminum alloys), strict laboratory verification is often required.

The sooner the antibacterial ability of the cutting fluid becomes smelly, the worse the antibacterial ability will be. Prepare an appropriate amount of 5% concentration diluent and keep it in the container, and regularly smell the change of cutting fluid smell.

This item is directly related to the service life of the cutting fluid. The antibacterial principle of most products relies on the bactericide in the product formula, and only a very small amount of products use advanced biological antibacterial methods, which effectively solves the potential harm of the bactericide to the skin.

Observing the change of the boundary line of anti-miscellaneous oil ability: The cutting fluid with weak resistance to miscellaneous oil will soon mix with the oil, making the boundary line more and more blurred. Prepare an appropriate amount of 5% diluent and place it in a transparent container, and then drop an appropriate amount of hydraulic oil or rail oil into the cutting fluid. Oil will float on the surface of the cutting fluid, and there will be a clear dividing line between oil and water.

Use a special nitrite detection test paper to know whether it contains nitrite. Or ask the manufacturer to provide MSDS files. If the test strip turns red, 99% of the time, it can be judged to contain carcinogenic nitrite. The deeper the redness, the higher the content. The mainstream imported brand products do not contain nitrite; however, it is very common to use nitrite as an anti-rust additive in domestic products.
 

For the safety and health characteristics of products, it is an effective method to require manufacturers to provide MSDS files and inquire about the contents. The suppliers of shoddy products of different brands are usually unable to provide the MSDS files of the products or provide MSDS files which are apocryphal.

The consumption of cutting fluid is two kinds of cutting fluids, and other performances are similar; one is priced at 7,500 yuan a barrel, and the other is priced at 9,000 yuan a barrel. Under the same processing volume, the former consumes 2 barrels per month, while the latter consumes only 1.5 barrels. Which one would you buy? The short answer calculation shows that the use cost of the latter with a significantly higher price is 10% lower than that of the cheaper former.

Two reagent bottles can be used to prepare the same concentration of dilution and maintain the same volume. Then take two identical standard samples (such as two long steel rods), immerse the samples in the cutting fluid in the reagent bottle in the same way and take them out (the cutting fluid will stick to the samples and drip on the outside).
 
After repeating the same immersion and removal action the same number of times, compare the amount of cutting fluid remaining in the reagent bottle. If there is a lot left, it means that the cutting fluid is not easily consumed by the parts and chips. Taking away products with high consumption will bring higher usage costs.

Furthermore, there is a lack of simple methods for the comparison of cooling performance. However, as long as it is a water-soluble product, the cooling performance is not much different.

For fully synthetic grinding fluids, there are also requirements for sedimentation. That is, the ability of wear debris and metal particles to settle quickly in the grinding fluid. This can be very intuitive to observe the changes in the transparency of the grinding fluid. Products with better settling properties can maintain good transparency for a longer time. There are many specific evaluation methods for the performance evaluation of cutting fluids in the laboratory, but in general factories, the above simple methods can also be used to obtain considerable and effective evaluations.
