Understanding stamping oil
Stamping oil refers to the processing lubricating oil used in various stamping and forming processes. In order to make stamping oil effective, professional stamping oil requires various additives, rather than just filling some oil and using it as stamping oil.

In the stamping process of various materials, stamping oil can play these three roles:

1. The new material that breaks off from the plate comes into contact with the cutting tool, and at this point, due to boundary friction, adhesion will occur. In order to reduce blade adhesion, it is required that the stamping oil has good extreme pressure.

2. During the stamping process, a large amount of heat is generated, causing the mold temperature to rise, which affects the accuracy of machining dimensions and the lifespan of the mold. Therefore, it is required that the heat dissipation, cooling, and extreme pressure properties of the stamping oil be good

3. On the contact surface between the concave convex mold and the sheet metal, there is slight sliding between the sheet metal and the mold during the stamping process, resulting in end face wear. In order to reduce end face wear, stamping oil is required to have a certain appropriate viscosity and can bear a certain thickness of oil film strength.

4. During the stamping process, a large amount of heat is generated, causing the mold temperature to rise, which affects the accuracy of machining dimensions and the lifespan of the mold. Therefore, it is required that the heat dissipation of the stamping oil be good.

About stamping oil
The following are some common knowledge about the selection of stamping oil summarized by Teacher Fu based on more than 20 years of successful experience in the metal processing industry, so that everyone will no longer be confused when choosing stamping oil:

Firstly, in terms of the selection of stamping oil, due to the different materials used in the stamping process, the working speed of the stamping machine used, the tensile coefficient of the workpiece, the shape of the workpiece, and the subsequent process requirements, various factors and conditions can also affect the selection of stamping oil. Therefore, before selecting, it is necessary to communicate with the manufacturer about the process requirements and processing requirements.

The following are common options for stamping oil, which can be matched accordingly.

Principles for selecting stamping oil
If the stamping is made of silicon steel sheet, it is a material that is relatively easy to cut, and most require that the surface of the workpiece can dry quickly without residual oil after cutting. At the same time, it is also necessary to prevent burrs from forming during punching and cutting, thereby extending the service life of the mold. Therefore, if it is stamping oil for silicon steel sheets, it is recommended to choose stamping oil with slightly higher viscosity, volatile properties, no carbon deposition after annealing, and certain rust resistance.

2. If the stamping is done on tinned steel plates, it is recommended to consider using non chlorine stamping oil to prevent the surface of the workpiece from turning white.

3. If it is stamping aluminum or aluminum alloy, it is recommended not to use stamping oil containing chlorine or sulfur additives, otherwise it is easily oxidized. Generally, it is recommended to use stamping oil with a pH of neutral.

4. If stainless steel plates are being stamped, work hardening is prone to occur during the stamping process. It is recommended to choose stamping oil with high oil film strength and good sintering resistance. The stamping oil should have a certain viscosity and good cooling performance.

5. If punching copper or copper alloy, it is recommended not to choose stamping oil containing chlorine or sulfur additives, but to choose stamping oil with oiliness and good fluidity.

6. If it is punching stainless steel, it is recommended to use stainless steel specific stamping oil, which has high requirements for extreme pressure, no burrs on the workpiece, and has a significant protective effect on the mold.

Confirm when selecting
1. What stamping process is it: punching? Deep drawing? Deepening and thinning? Bending?

2. Material of the workpiece: What kind of steel? Aluminum, copper, alloy, silicon steel sheet?

3. What is the tensile coefficient? How many times is the drawing done?

4. What is the tonnage of the stamping machine? Working speed?

5. What is the shape of the workpiece? What are the problems exhibited by the scrap during the trial drawing process?

Stamping oil manufacturers also need to understand the actual situation of customers based on the specific issues mentioned above in order to more accurately recommend suitable stamping oil. At the same time, the stamping oil formula needs to be determined based on the customer's usage habits.

Many stamping oils that are labeled as "sheep's head selling dog meat" are actually replaced by loading white mineral oil, and the cheap price is the killer. We can handle some simple stamping processes with low requirements, but for precision stamping with high surface finish requirements, we still need to use professional stamping oil. Otherwise, stamping workpieces will have problems over time. For the long-term interests of the company and product quality, we advise everyone to try to use professional stamping oil as much as possible to avoid unnecessary trouble.
