The choice of base oil in metal processing oil formula!

November 13, 2021

The Base Oil of mineral lubricating oil is refined from crude oil. The main production process of lubricating oil base oil includes: atmospheric and vacuum distillation, solvent deasphalting, solvent refining, solvent dewaxing, clay or hydrogenation supplement refining. In 1995, my country's current lubricant base oil standards were revised, mainly the classification method was revised, and two types of special base oil standards, low condensation and deep refined, were added. For the production of metal processing oil, the most important thing is to select the best crude oil.

MWF base oil

The viscosity grade of mineral lubricating oil base oil is expressed by the Saybolt viscosity (seconds) at 37.8°C (100ㄈ), marked as 100N, 150N, 500N, etc.; while the high-viscosity oil made from residual oil is called bright oil (bright oil), expressed in 98.9 (210ㄈ) Saybolt viscosity (seconds), such as 150BS, 120BS, etc. Since the 1970s, my country has formulated three base oil standards, namely paraffin base oil, intermediate base oil and naphthenic base oil, which are marked with SN, ZN and DN respectively. For example: 75SN, 100SN, 150SN, 200SN, 350SN, 500SN, 650SN and 150BS. However, the viscosity of SN oil is divided by the kinematic viscosity at 40°C, and the kinematic viscosity of BS is divided by the kinematic viscosity at 100°C. The specifications and standards of these base oils have been implemented in China for a period of time, which has promoted and improved the overall production technology of lubricants.

Since the 1990s, China Petrochemical Corporation has classified base oils into UHVI (ultra-high viscosity index, viscosity index>140) and VHVI (very high viscosity index) according to the internationally-used base oil classification method and the nature and viscosity index of domestic crude oil since the 1990s. , Viscosity index> 120), HVI (high viscosity index, viscosity index> 80), MVI (medium viscosity index, viscosity index 40-80) and LVI (low viscosity index, viscosity index <40). In addition, according to the nature requirements of high-end oils such as large-span multi-grade internal combustion engine oil, hydraulic transmission oil, high-performance extreme pressure industrial Gear Oil, etc., two types of deeply refined base oil standards, HVIS and MVIS, have been formulated, and Two types of base oil standards for deep dewaxing, HVIW and MVIW. The oxidation stability, demulsibility, evaporation loss and pour point of these base oils have higher requirements than the previous base oils.

base oil

HVI high viscosity index base oil, the specified viscosity index is not less than 95. Used to formulate lubricating oils with high viscosity-temperature performance requirements. The viscosity grades are HVI-75, HVI-100, HVI-150, HVI-200, HVI-350, HVI-400, HVI-500 and HIV-650 and two HVI-120BS and HVI-150BS bright oils.

MVI is a medium viscosity index base oil. The viscosity index is not less than 60. It is suitable for the preparation of lubricating oils with low viscosity-temperature performance requirements. The viscosity grades are: MVI-60, MVI-75, MVI-100, MVI-150, MVI-250, MVI-500, MVI-600, MVI-750, MVI-900 and MVI-90BS, MVI125/140BS and MVI- 200/220BS three bright oils.

LVI is a low viscosity index base oil. No minimum viscosity index is specified. It is suitable for the preparation of low-freezing point lubricants such as transformer oil and refrigerating machine oil. The viscosity grades are: LVI-60, LVI-75, LVI-100, LVI-150, LVI-300, LVI-500, LVI-900, LVI-1200 and LVI-90BS, LVI-230/250BS two bright oils.

HVIS high viscosity index deep refined base oil, in addition to the viscosity index greater than 95, also has excellent oxidation stability, anti-emulsification and certain evaporation loss indicators. It is suitable for the blending of high-grade steam turbine oil and extreme pressure industrial gear oil. Its viscosity grade corresponds to HVI base oil.

HVIW is a base oil with high viscosity index, low freezing point and low volatility. In addition to the viscosity index greater than 95, it also stipulates a lower freezing point, lower evaporation loss and good oxidation stability. It is suitable for the preparation of high-grade internal combustion engine oil, low-temperature hydraulic oil, hydraulic transmission fluid, etc. Its viscosity grade corresponds to HVI base oil.

MVIS is a highly refined base oil with a medium viscosity index. In addition to a viscosity index of not less than 60, it also has good oxidation stability and anti-emulsification. It is suitable for the blending of steam turbine oil, etc. Its viscosity grade corresponds to MVI base oil.

MVIW is a medium viscosity index, low freezing point and low volatility base oil. In addition to the viscosity index of not less than 60, it also has good oxidation stability, anti-emulsification and evaporation loss. Suitable for blending internal combustion engine oil, low temperature hydraulic oil, etc.
