How to choose suitable Viscosity Index Improver VII when blending different lubricant?

Normally there are 4 widely used types Viscosity Index Improver: OCP type, HSD type, PMA type, PIB type. When blend different lubricant, we usually follow the rules as below.


1) For engine oil:

For 0W, 5W oil, we should use HSD type (, especially for the long oil change requirement and long viscosity span requirement such as 0W40.

For 10W and above viscosity grade, we should use OCP type VII, which can meet the performance with low cost.

For some regions with further requiremnt for low temperature performance, we also use some PMA type.


2) For Gear Oil:

We usually use PIB or PMA type.


3) For hydraulic oil:

Usually use PMA type.


4) For other industrial oil, the VII should be decided by the specific working conditions.
