How to make EP cutting fluid? Four Steps to Teach You

The key to the preparation of extreme pressure cutting fluid is the rational selection of emulsifier, the stability of concentrated solution and diluent, and the rational compatibility of extreme pressure agent, rust inhibitor and mold inhibitor, so that it has good extreme pressure lubrication, rust prevention and mold resistance.

1) Selection of emulsifier
The selection of emulsifier is particularly important when preparing EP microemulsion cutting fluid. At present, there are many methods used: (1) HLB (hydrophilic lipophilic equilibrium) value method for selecting emulsifiers; (2) Select the PTlr (phase inversion temperature) method of emulsifier. The selection of emulsifier is the key to prepare excellent EP micro lotion. The most reliable method is laboratory screening, but it is too time-consuming and time-consuming. Therefore, no matter what kind of oil or additive is emulsified, first find out the HLB value of the emulsified material and determine the corresponding emulsifier. With reference to the above principles, repeated tests were conducted to determine the emulsifier to be selected.

2) Selection of extreme pressure lubricant
In semi synthetic extreme pressure cutting fluid, it is far from enough to rely only on the lubricating performance of emulsified mineral oil. A good extreme pressure lubricant should only react with the metal surface within the extreme pressure and anti-wear range, and it is stable enough at low temperatures. At present, it is believed that the borate extreme pressure effect mainly depends on its deposition between metal friction pairs to form a good elastic film which is softer than the base metal and S-P type extreme pressure film. In high temperature and low viscosity base oils, the formation of this extreme pressure film is more rapid. The preparation process of borate extreme pressure agent is simple, the raw materials are easy to obtain, and the price is low. There is basically no "three wastes" in production.

3) Selection of rust inhibitor
The cutting fluid must be rust proof to the workpiece and equipment during use. Water solubility and oil solubility should be considered when selecting rust inhibitor. The rust prevention effect of various materials shall also be considered. In the semi synthetic extreme pressure cutting fluid, high-grade carboxylic acid soap, molybdate, borate, petroleum sulfonate, etc. are mainly selected.

The selection of rust inhibitor is a very complicated process. Due to different manufacturers, raw materials and production processes, the performance of the same rust inhibitor varies greatly. It takes a lot of practice to find a suitable rust inhibitor.

4) Selection of Fungicide and Fungicide
In emulsion, the stinking deterioration is the first one in cutting fluid deterioration. In recent 20 years, a variety of long-acting broad-spectrum bactericides have been developed for selection. Because bacteria have certain selectivity and drug resistance. Therefore, in the cutting fluid, it is better to choose more than two fungicides and use them alternately.
