The reason why the emulsified cutting fluid of CNC engraving and milling machine deteriorates and stinks

May 21, 2022

In the process of CNC engraving and milling machine, it is often necessary to use emulsion to cool the tool. Emulsion tends to deteriorate and even smell during use. So what is the reason for this phenomenon? Below we will take you to understand in detail the reasons for this phenomenon.

emulsified cutting fluid

1. The main reason for the deterioration and smell of the emulsion
Emulsion often comes into contact with various substances during use, and because of poor environmental hygiene and high temperature around the machine tool, a large number of bacteria will soon breed. The bacteria in the emulsion are mainly divided into aerobic bacteria and anaerobic bacteria. Aerobic bacteria like to live in an environment with minerals. When the machine tool is processed, it will be accompanied by substances such as water, cutting fluid, and lubricating oil, and the continuous circulation of the cutting fluid will naturally increase the itching content of the cutting fluid. , thus creating an optimal growth environment for pruritus.

Another type of anaerobic bacteria is just the opposite. It lives in an environment without oxygen and releases SO2 from its metabolism. This gas has a rotten egg smell. At the same time, the anaerobic bacteria will turn the color of the cutting fluid black. When the bacterial density in the cutting fluid is greater than 106, the cutting fluid will stink. The cutting fluid storage tank of CNC equipment is generally designed to be relatively closed. After the machine tool stops working, the oxygen content of the cutting fluid is reduced due to the stopping of circulation, which provides a favorable environment for the growth of anaerobic bacteria, thereby promoting The cutting fluid deteriorates rapidly and stinks.

During the use of CNC machine tools, the leakage of lubrication from machine tool components enters the cutting fluid, and these oil stains will form an oil film on the surface of the cutting fluid, thereby blocking the contact between the cutting fluid and the air, further aggravating the hypoxia of the cutting fluid, making the Anaerobic bacteria can multiply more rapidly, further aggravating the spoilage of cutting fluid. In order to change this phenomenon, the machine tool is equipped with an oil-water separation device, which can greatly improve this situation.

2. How bacteria enter the cutting fluid
①Preparation and cutting water contains bacteria.
②Bacteria brought in by the cutting fluid in contact with bacteria in the environment during use.
③Contaminant bacteria brought into the workpiece.
④Bacteria brought in by the bad habits of the operator, such as littering cigarette butts, rags, etc., enter the cutting fluid.
⑤ The oil leakage of machine parts brings bacteria into the cutting fluid.

The above has introduced the reasons for the deterioration of cutting fluid and the way for bacteria to enter the cutting. If we can deal with these two problems in the daily use process, I believe that the problem of cutting fluid deterioration and odor can be well solved. .
