The rust inhibitors in water-based cutting fluids are mainly divided into water-soluble rust inhibitors and oil-soluble rust inhibitors.

Oil soluble rust inhibitors are made from mineral oil, lubricants, preservatives, non-ferrous metal corrosion inhibitors, and surfactants in a certain proportion. Most are long carbon chain organic compounds with polar groups. The polar groups in its molecules are tightly adsorbed on the metal surface through the action of charges. Long carbon chain hydrocarbons face the outer side of the metal surface and dissolve with oil. The rust inhibitor molecules are arranged towards the metal surface, forming an adsorptive protective film, preventing the metal from being corroded by water and oxygen.

Oil soluble rust inhibitor: mainly used for rust prevention treatment of steel products, forming a thin film on the surface of steel products to prevent contact with oxygen and achieve good rust prevention effect.

Water soluble rust inhibitor: It is a water-soluble substance, and its rust prevention process is mainly composed of free alkali and water-soluble preservatives.

For example, triethanolamine reacts with metals to form a dense oxide film on the metal surface, preventing electrochemical corrosion of metals and water, ensuring safety and environmental protection. Adding rust inhibitors to emulsions has good rust resistance. Black metal processing technologies such as turning, grinding, drilling, milling, and pulling that can be used in the mechanical processing industry can meet the rust prevention requirements in black metal processing.

In the actual production process of water-based cutting fluids, the combination of oil soluble rust inhibitors and water soluble rust inhibitors has the best effect.
