Requirements and Analysis of Chain Lubrication

The chain oil used should meet the following requirements:
1. Friction and wear characteristics:
When the chain works, rolling friction and sliding friction occur. The guide wheel is actually equivalent to a rolling bearing, with low speed and medium load; at the connecting part of each chain link, sliding friction occurs between the two ends of the side plate, the connecting block and the pin. When the chain turns, the pin rotates in the pin hole. Severe friction, so the pin determines the length of the life of the chain;
According to the above friction and wear characteristics, the requirements for lubricants are:
1) Good adhesion, can be firmly attached to the friction surface and will not be thrown off by the centrifugal force of the chain.
2) It has good lubricating performance and extreme pressure resistance, reducing friction and wear;
3) Good permeability, can penetrate into each friction link of the chain ring to form an oil film; due to the small matching gap between the pin and the pin hole, it is difficult for ordinary lubricants to reach the friction surface, so this is the key to chain lubrication technology.

2. Requirements for lubrication in high temperature environment:
After the surface of the workpiece is painted, it needs to enter the oven to bake the paint, that is to say, the hanging conveyor chain needs to enter the high temperature area repeatedly, and the time to enter the high temperature area is about tens of minutes each time. This requires that chain lubricants should meet:
1) The Base Oil of the lubricant has a suitable viscosity and a high viscosity index;
2) Flash point>270℃, no carbon deposition and not easy to volatilize at high temperature below 230℃;
3) Good oxidation stability, the lubricant will not be quickly oxidized to form oxides when it is in contact with air in a high temperature environment.

3. Requirements for lubrication in high humidity and acid-base environment:
1) Resistant to water and water vapor, the lubricant does not emulsify or dissolve in water;
2) Resistant to acid and alkali chemical corrosion, especially the reaction of phosphorus chemicals;
3) Anti-rust and anti-corrosion properties,;

4. Requirements for long-term lubrication:
Considering the heavy production tasks of the production line, the time required for equipment maintenance should be minimized, and the lubricant should be required to have a long-term effect; or consider a convenient and feasible filling method.

5. Types of conventional chain lubricants
The chain lubricating oil we use is divided into different sources according to the source of raw materials: mineral oil and synthetic oil. In actual use, mineral oil products will gradually reveal poor viscosity-temperature properties, high and low temperature cannot be taken into account at the same time, large amount of volatilization, and easy coking accumulation. A series of problems such as carbon, and synthetic oil is based on these deficiencies of mineral oil. Synthetic lubricating products have strong comprehensive performance, all performance is much higher than that of mineral oil products, and the working cycle is longer than that of mineral oil. -8 times.

The most commonly used synthetic oils include PAO, polyester, and polyether (PAG). They have their own characteristics. PAG high-temperature oils have the characteristics of instant volatilization, that is, at a certain temperature (generally between 200 and 240 °C), they will all evaporate very quickly, and their volatilization rate will increase rapidly at 160 °C. Therefore, the amount of this type of oil in actual use is often surprisingly large, but the evaporation characteristics of this type of oil can reduce chain carbon deposition at temperatures above 160 °C. The lubricating ability of synthetic hydrocarbon oil is lower than that of PAG, and the problem of carbon deposition of hydrocarbon oil is also serious, so there are not many cases where hydrocarbon oil is used to lubricate chains at temperatures above 160°C. In the application of mineral oil, the problems of lubrication and carbon deposition are more serious, so mineral oil lubrication should not be used here. Ester oil can not only reach the service temperature of about 200 ℃, but also has the characteristics of good viscosity-temperature characteristics, not easy to deposit carbon and coke, so it is also the most widely used in automobile coating and conveying systems.

In addition, the high-temperature chain oil of the coating line should avoid containing free silicon components, and a shrinkage cavity test should be strictly carried out before selecting a product to avoid shrinkage cavities on the workpiece.
